1.
From Me to You (for singing bowl and mixing desk) Words and music by David Lawrie You and me Are treading through mud. We're out of time and luck. I question if I still give a fuck. You try to be an enemy; But before all this here, Yours was me. I tried to be All that you see I tried. So I give this all to you...
2.
Your Patient (for lust and self control) Hands are just hands, but they are made for feeling. Dreams are just dreams, but they are there for stealing. Lips are just lips, but they are made for kissing. Time is not real. Time is a construct. Time is my friend. Time does not love me But time won't offend. A flea in my hair, a tune in the air; Hypnosis with a purpose? Not on your life. There's the child with dreams so wild, I want them for myself. There's the woman with olive skin; I have to be within. I had a nightmare. I had a scare. I felt the poison, Stood in your stare. The girl outside is my run-away bride, With her hair in her eyes, she's blinded. And all of the time that she won't be mine There's a flea in my hair, A tune in the air; Hypnosis with a purpose, But not on your life.
3.
T'as Dit Quoi? (pour la haine et une appel téléphonique) Words and music by David Lawrie Lead me astray. Lead me astray. Take me away. Lead me astray. Follow the road. Follow the road. Hate where it goes. Follow the road. Red sky morning, Shepherd's warning. All the while You hold your smile. I'll try. Holding my hand. Holding my hand. Losing the sands of time, Holding my hand. Running ahead. Running ahead. A shot to the head if you're Running ahead. Storm clouds forming. Rain drops falling. Your own blunder Steals your thunder.
4.
Sinner, Gambler, Fugitive (for human gears and manual error) Words and music by David Lawrie. Harmless wager on the table, This is where we anti-up. Open up a black revolver, Russian fingers, fill her slight. Use a club to beat a stranger, Use a spade to cover up. Bribe the Jury with a diamond, Stab a heart to put it right. Follow the investigation, Make a note of where it's been. Memorise the outs and ins, To hide away these deadly sins. Sanitary in the Bathroom; This is where my hands are clean. Antiseptic in the sink, Anti-everything I think. Run away and make it quick, It's not too late to saddle up. Get ahead to start again, To get away from what is done. Balaclava over head And leather gloves won't leave a trace. Take a gamble with a gun, But pass it off as 'just for fun'. Worry if you're fucking up; If everything is down to luck. Make a perfect alibi; Poker face to tell a lie. In a vessel, on a river, Ocean-bound to not be found. Waterfall to make you think It's easier to let it sink.
5.
Saffron (for butchershop septet) Words and music by David Lawrie You are a rare delicacy. All that you are turns into me: Circus side-show freak on the street, Padlocks and chains strangling me. Break them apart. Break them apart. Break them apart. With one eye closed, the other one filled with sand, They're looking for you, they're looking for me. They're looking for my brother. With one eye closed, the other one filled with sand, They're looking for you, they'll never get me. They'll never steal my brother. You are a rare delicacy, For sale, you're mine to eat. Syrup-sweet taste when you're feeling the heat, Here's a piggy back ride to rest your feet. I'll tell you when I feel hunger the most; It's when this barnacle uses me as a host. A crying shame, but all the same, There's a thousand like you; Time and again. With one eye closed, the other one filled with sand, They're looking for you, they're looking for me. They're looking for my brother. With one eye closed, the other one filled with sand, They're looking for you, they'll never find me. They'll never steal my brother. With one eye closed, the other one filled with sand, They're looking for you, they're looking for me. They're looking for each other. With one eye closed, the other one made from clay, They're fumbling around, they're tumbling down, They'll never find each other. You are a rare delicacy. All that you are turns into me: Circus side-show freak on the street, Padlocks and chains strangling me. You are a rare delicacy. All that you are turns into me. Break it away. Break it away. Break it away.
6.
Your Student (for hammered dulcimer and bottleneck fingers) Words and music by David Lawrie Purest was the porcelain skin of the sinner at night. A shimmer of moonlight's incision Through a curtain crack; From your sweat it does refract, Dazzling me. Surest was the innocent that his soul investment was right. Seeing with your finger tips, Listening with blood-red lips, Speaking with an open hand, Lying to me. Show me what you feel. Tell me how you feel. Put it in a song. Sing it soft and long And sing to me. I studied every inch of your body for hours on end. Asleep and unashamed, Asleep and un-enabled, Your breathing was a welcome breeze Cooling me off. Muddled were the hands of the one who had love to send. Muddy with the dirt you kept, Bloody from the tears you wept. Show me everything you hide In your own time. Tell me how you feel. Show me what you feel. Sing your perfect song, Powerful and strong And sing to me.
7.
Tethys: My Love, My Saviour (for Medusa: my mistress, the masochist) Words and music by David Lawrie I had that dream again; The one where I am drowning. Tethys flows across to me And shows me how to swim. Every time my head goes under She is there to save me. Every time that I get dirty She is there to bathe me. "You are the most important thin", She said that to me. Oh, how I loved that lie. I had that dream again. The one where I am blind. Medusa slithers over here And gets under my skin. And she seduces me by the fire To burn me alive, And she confides in me, And tells me she loves me, Over (and over, and over, and over) again. And over again. "You are the most important thing", She said that. She said that to me. You said that to me. You said that to me. You said that to me. You said that to me.
8.
Liar, Charlatan, Jinxmonger (for voice and piano) Words and music by David Lawrie There's no point in making a sound. There's no point in breaking new ground. All that's left will kill you some more, Now you know you did this before I came round. Hold your head up high in the air. Walk away from all that's unfair. Break the wrists of those who defy. Shake your fists at those who will try to be there. Turn around and look at your crowd. Take a bow, for this is allowed. Pick up roses scattered on stage. Quickly run and exit when it gets too loud. There's no point in breaking new ground When I know you chose this before I came round. Fickle and jealous, and shy, and proud: Ticklish charlatan tied to the ground, But no alarms here. (no alarms here) One of your threads dipped in wit and charm Wrapped and tied around my boney arm, And there's still no siren Still no siren Still no silence Still no violence Still no piracy (See) the blue sky turning black And hear the thunder start to crack. With rising tide, you hit the shore And open fire with tools of war, So aimless bullets start to kill, And streams of blood will start to spill, And wash over my questionable faith in you. Bird song peeping through The scuffle you brought about. When the dust clears Your eye, (your eye, your eye) Your eyes will be dissatisfied. Sanctify me by being like a little girl; By knowing how it all unfurls, But keep this from me. My eye (my eye, my eye) My eyes will drown their sorrows soon. Separate fact from this mud of lies As an excuse for not too to despise, And then dust myself clean. I cried one last insomnia night, And I knew it wouldn't be true if I said "I still love you". (I still love you)
